PARIS SHOW WEEK: “America Is My Country And Paris Is My Hometown.”
Submitted by Laura Thomas on Tue, 10/06/2009 - 12:08I’ve always said that there are two ways that I’ll know I’ve “made it”: Owning a dog and attending Paris fashion week. That said, I have not, as of yet, “made it” but thanks to my friends’ terrier, Lucho, and the World Wide Web I keep a hand in it.
On to Paris. So there are a few huge trends stomping down the runways making them impossible not to notice: Jade and orangey fire engine red are the colors du printemps without a doubt. Also, sunnies are the number one accessory coming down the runway—see Giambattista Valli and Dries Van Noten among others. Oh, and khaki is chic once again as seen at Stella McCartney, Dries and Celine.
That said, here are some of my favorites—and can we have a moment of silence for Viktor & Rolf’s BRILLIANT illusion ball gown? I mean, please. More to come this week!

Take All of My Money, Phoebe Philo: One of Fashion’s Coolest Kids is Back and It’s So Good

For me, resort collections are to fashion what Valentine’s Day is to the calendar year—a moneymaking work of fiction. I mean, how many people really need to stock up for a jaunt to St. Barth’s in February? Sadly, not many of us. That said I’ve changed my song this month to the tune of my dear Phoebe Philo’s reentry back into my life. The dashingly cool Ms. Philo recently debuted her Resort 2010 collection for Celine and the lady’s still got it.
Friend Phoebe was the wunderkind who rocked out at Chloé after Stella McCartney left to start her eponymous line in 2001. She had me seriously considering the option of foregoing a 401K in favor of peasant mini dresses—they appreciate over time right? Haha…ahem. Alas, Philo put out her own fashion fire when she decided to leave the business to raise her young family. But, that kind of talent can’t hide for long and Celine is lucky to have her.
The nude, black and grey palette punctuated with pool blue, cobalt and sea green is spot on and so signature Phoebe, especially when married to her easy and feminine take on masculine tailoring. If by some miracle of the money gods I could possibly enjoy a resort vacation in the French West Indies, my imaginary Goyard leather trunk would be chock full of this collection. Just sayin’.
