FENG SHUI YOUR WEBSITE - For Spring?

There is a trend happening now that suggests you Feng Shui your website for the season. Google it, the trend is there. Interestingly, at least to me, anyway, we are in the process of a site redesign, not for Brand Building but for my other company 24/Savvy. I liked our site, but according to both my amazing SVP and business partner it needed an overhaul. It wasn't intuitive enough; it looked too much like a blog. Just check out CNN's site, they said, see the difference? Of course, it's CNN and we're a lifestyle platform, not a news site. BUT, they think we're newsy too. Ok, off topic.

Today with all the tools we have available to us, doing a site redesign just because it's spring is not an impossibility, it's a probability. But Feng Shui your site? I think it's best to get a designer who knows how to make sure your site is more friendly to those souls who you most want to reach. Not sure positioning things the Feng Shui way is worth the effort, I've never believed in Feng Shui. But what I do believe is that shaking things up a bit can yield some really cool results. And with how "easy" it is to make changes I say go for it!

GOING VIRAL

I just launched a new business. By and large it lives on the Web. When you think of a web (at least when I do), I see little fragile yet resilient strands of gossamer threads interconnected in a blessed pattern. Blessed because who the heck could ever come up with a concept like that? Seriously. When I think about my new business and how to make it grow I consider where it lives, inside a Web. So, how to make it grow? Go viral.

Viral is an exponential experience that has the power to turn something tiny into something huge. And while viral has a kind of creepy connotation, in the world of consumer goods the hope that your idea will find a life of it's own and spread is a good hope. In fact, it's a hopeful hope (now I'm sounding silly, but you get the picture).

How does something go viral? Well, if we all knew how to do it we'd all be doing it, at least in my business. Yes, you can attach your concept to influencers who will spread the word. Or, you can make your content so funny or so ghastly that people just can't wait to share. Whatever the formula, or lack there of, going viral is key. So, here we are with a hope in our heart and a ton of great marketing triggers in our fingers, ready to take our message to the streets. Going viral might just mean going for it. LOL!

All The Savvy Ladies, Now Put Your Hands Up

Since you’re loyal followers, I thought I would give you all a little insider info that we recently got wind of – there’s a new multi-media online community launching on the 17th that is guaranteed to turn you into one savvy lady! With editorial content, style news and reviews, gift giveaways and a webisode series, 24/Savvy is going to be the new go-to destination. Oh and did I forget to mention, that the brains behind this super fun, new site are the team at Brand Building Communications

I don’t know about you, but I love all tips and tricks that help me live smarter and more creatively, especially in our economy. This site will have you living savvier by your first visit and, get this, you can even win all the great products they talk about. I used to steer clear from sweepstakes and anything with the words “promotional,” or “giveaways,” but with gifts like diamonds, vacations and great designer duds, you better believe I will be the first to sign up.

Now for my absolute favorite part of the site – it features a webisode series hosted by Kathleen Monteleone (AKA “Elle” from the “Legally Blonde” traveling Broadway production). Each week she and a variety of experts will give a celebrity personality a ‘Savvy Edit’ on their closet, kitchen or playroom, etc., and then all edited items are auctioned off or donated to benefit a charity. I am a huge promoter of charities, so I can personally testify that there is definitely nothing savvier than sharing what you’ve got!

Trust me, you will LOVE everything about this site, and the reason I am telling you about it now is because you will want to be one of the first to join. Only the first 50 to register will win the ‘Savvy Gift’ each week, so all my savvy ladies mark your calendars.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

I'm launching a new business that was birthed out of my agency experience. The business is web-based and will offer people a place to share ideas and receive gifts, etc., for their participation and time. We developed it because we saw an opportunity and more than that felt connected to this concept (details to come!). But here's the thing: what the heck to name this new platform?

Just how important is a name? Brand Building was named by my ex-partner/owner (originally we were a division of Toth Brand Imaging). He felt strongly that our name should "say" something. I wasn't too keen on the name, but since he was the boss, I went with it, and I'm glad I did. The name really works for us and has given us a powerful way to express who we are and what we do.

When we played around with the name for this new venture, some "interesting" ideas came to light such as “cake”, “up and loop” (which is pool spelled backwards, and I don't want to tell the crazy ideas we had around that iteration). Usually, names take FOREVER to find. So, you can imagine how thrilled we were when our own brilliant Laura Thomas came up with "24/Savvy." Watch out guys, if you want great ideas for living your life (and great products to help you do it for free!), then we're your destination.

Stay tuned!
