Cursive Writing: Thing of the Past?

Hey, has anyone heard that cursive writing may be a thing of the past? I’m pretty sure it isn’t taught in school now, and if it is, it may not be on the menu for much longer. I have doctor’s handwriting skills, essentially, not so good. Funny thing is, years ago when I was trying to make ends meet in New York I made extra money by doing calligraphy for invites.

I’ll miss cursive if it goes the way of the dodo bird. It seems so many of our hand crafted skills are starting to disappear. Bummer.

Why so disappointed? Well, it’s our signature – after all. There is a little bit of each one of us inside our John Hancock. Perhaps we’ll still need to retain this ability. Maybe this will be the only thing we'll need to write in cursive?

Here’s the thing: I am all for progress, and far be it for me to be critical of how our world is evolving, but to lose this individual skill seems a little sad.

Sure we have voice recognition and even eye recognition, but when it comes to writing we have to do something. It’s more personal. And this from the lady with the bad handwriting skills. Oh well, onward and upward.
